Syracuse Elementary School

Description

Project called for the addition of a single story masonry and clear span steel multi-purpose room, stage, and food service center. Scheduling of work was critical, due to the limited size of the project site. All underground utilities were altered, including the addition of a new fire hydrant line from the existing roadway.

Once the addition was completed, the students and staff transitioned their lunch and gym activities into the new building. The construction team then began renovation of the existing food service and multi-purpose room into new administrative offices, media center, and speech therapy facilities. This included removal of sections of the exterior masonry bearing walls and replaced by structural steel columns and storefront windows to allow natural light into the new media center. A new transformer and main electrical panels were added, which required precise coordination with the school administrators. Management of this project included keeping the existing school open to the students and staff without compromising safety or school schedule.
