Church History Museum

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Located directly west of Temple Square at 45 N. West Temple in downtown Salt Lake City, this museum is the LDS Church’s flagship facility for displaying art, providing educational exhibits, and presentations of historical artifacts. Westland was asked to oversee a year-long renovation that included a nearly complete reconstruction & reconfiguration of the usable space, which encompassed 4 levels and a total of 61,000 sf. The new renovations replace exhibits and museum space that has been in place for more than 30 years, and aims to tell a more impactful, complete history of the church, its place in the history of the community and culture to a new generation of Salt Lake City visitors. The new interior employs cutting-edge technology in 8 new exhibit areas, with one featuring a 240-degree surround-screen theater as the main exhibit, enveloping patrons with a high quality sight & sound experience. The theater boasts in & out internet streaming capabilities and high-end sound system. The new exhibits utilize interactive features for both adults and young children. In addition to the new exhibit areas, the museum store was enlarged and updated, and escalators were removed and replaced with a Grand Staircase. A façade of the old ZCMI General Mercantile store, historically significant to Salt Lake City, was also installed in the exhibit area.

In the church we are very concerned about I. Time, 2. Cost, and 3. Quality. Westland Construction has been very attentive to our concerns and they have helped us bring all projects in under cost, on time and at or under budget. Many but not all projects are reviewed by a quality assurance team. The quality assurance team comes to the project following its completion and conducts a very thorough inspection. Westland Construction has received high marks on all projects that have been inspected.
