Fiji Temple
ABOUT THIS PROJECT
Westland Construction completed the renovation of the LDS Temple in Suva Fiji in December. Originally dedicated in June of 2000, the Suva Fiji Temple was renovated over a 14-month project timeline from October 2014 to December 2015.Except for the Moroni statue, existing tilt-up concrete walls and structural steel, the facility was completely rebuilt. The colors and design motifs of the temple were inspired by the flowers, beaches and jungles of Fiji. The interior of the temple features original art glass and a hand-painted mural depicting the landscape and flora of the islands. Travertine tile flooring, combine with wool carpets, set the bar for the high-level interior finishes. Finish carpentry included intricate wood moldings, walnut cabinetry and doors, gold leafing, and bronze hardware. The original granite stone cladding, with a bolt and pin fastening, was retained and recaulked. The new interior was built with reinforced steel stud framing. Structural steel was reinforced as well. Renovations also included a completely new HVAC system, electrical system, plumbing systems, and cast-in-place baptismal font. The Moroni statue was re-gilded as well. Westland is extremely proud of all of our employees, sub-contractors, partners, and suppliers involved in this sacred project, with challenges ranging from remote location, limited local resources, Fijian/Australian building standards, and international operations and shipping
