Haiti Temple

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

The Port-au-Prince Haiti Temple is the first built in the country and the second built in the Caribbean, where missionary work officially began in 1980.  Church members in Haiti that previously attend temple services in the Santo Domingo Dominican Republic Temple, requiring nearly a day’s journey, can now attend in their own country. The Church is growing steadily in this island nation where its third and fourth stakes were recently organized in 2012—all four stakes being headquartered in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area, which boasts well over two million residents and 22,000 Church members. The Temple is built to high standards, along with seismic specifications to withstand future seismic events in this area, such as the 7.0 magnitude earthquake in 2010.  Building conditions and material acquisition in this area of the world present some unique construction management challenges.  Westland’s international project management experience was a key in overcoming these challenges.
