Pleasant Grove High School Fieldhouse

Description

The addition of a new, modern Fieldhouse to the Pleasant Grove High School campus is a major phase in the rebuilding of the school. The building adds form & functionality to the campus, providing a major High School sports venue while adding staff office space, instructional classrooms, spin-room, dance & ballet facilities, concessions area, mezzanine track, weight training facilities, and large storage areas for sports programs.

The project had several challenges. The site was small and constricted, with a functioning school & sports facilities immediately adjacent. Safety concerns were paramount and Westland took measures to ensure that the site exceeded School District and OSHA requirements to keep students safe. Site logistics were also challenging and called for meticulous material management. High retaining & foundation walls were needed to make the most of the limited acreage.

Exterior & Interior finishes focused on durability. The exterior consisted of contrasting Masonry Veneer, Architectural Metal Panels, Steel Sun Shades, Glass Curtain Wall, and Storefront windows & doors. Interior finishes consist of honed & painted masonry, ceramic tile, resilient flooring for track & dance rooms, and athletic wood flooring for the main basketball flooring.
