The River Rock Elementary design is the first Alpine School District elementary utilizing the new secure prototype design. Requested by the district in response to heightened security requirements for schools, it is a great example of an enhanced architectural design to address specific needs.
The structure is a current School District design, modified with enhanced security measures to lock down & restrict access during school hours. All exterior doors have card access readers, with the main entrance featuring a secure-entry that routes all non-student traffic through the administration area for identification before being allowed entry into the main building. Lock-down features can be activated remotely from the administration area as well.
The building is constructed with a steel structure frame and masonry walls. 34 class rooms highlight the functionality of the facility. Additionally, the school features a large Media Center, Computer Lab, Guided Reading Center, Instructional Kiva, Conference & Storage Rooms, Kitchen facilities, Faculty Lounge & Work Room, with a large multipurpose room with a stage completing the functional space.
