St George Airport

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Built on a 1,200 acre site, this new 2-story regional airport terminal is a culmination of more than two decades of city planning. The new airport replaces the city’s former airfield, which was perched on 274 acres atop a mesa, with no room for expansion. The Owner was very involved in forming the design, and remained actively engaged in the project through completion. At the time of construction, the site was located approximately 10 miles from the nearest utility. The remote location presented some unique challenges. Project operations were run off generators, satellite communications were used, operations relied heavily on pumps and water trucks because of the initial lack of utilities. It took a 95-phase schedule and 455 days to complete the new terminal building.
