Westland Construction built the new 91,526-square-foot Blanding Elementary School for San Juan School District, with MHTN Architects as architect. Westland was selected through a negotiated contract. The school replaces the original 1955 building and serves preschool through fifth grade. It has dedicated spaces for special education and STEM learning and a 600-seat gymnasium. Cultural awareness is woven into the layout, and the color palette draws on the natural landscape of San Juan County. Separate drop-off loops for parents and buses improve safety at arrival and dismissal. Construction began in May 2024, and the team reached substantial completion on May 12, 2026, ahead of the June 1 target. The school opened that August with a community ribbon cutting and a traditional house blessing, giving Blanding students a modern place to learn for generations to come.
