Westland Construction renovated the 11,745-square-foot Columbus Ohio Temple for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with HKS Architects as architect. The renovation began in August 2020. It upgraded the 1999 temple’s exterior envelope for energy efficiency, improved the building’s acoustics for a more reverent atmosphere, and enlarged windows and added new ones to bring in natural light and more art glass. The exterior is clad in granite and marble from Spain, and the art glass features the pink magnolia blossom in colors inspired by the surrounding landscape. Inside, the Regency-style design brings together Turkish stone floors with Pakistani stone accents, decorative painted ceilings, stepped and coffered millwork ceilings, and etched art glass. Custom carved carpet and satin brass door hardware repeat the magnolia and diamond lattice motifs. The site was also reworked with native landscaping, a continuous walkway around the temple, and larger gathering plazas. The temple was rededicated on June 4, 2023.
