Westland Construction built the new Freetown Sierra Leone Temple for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with Paton Taylor as architect. Westland was selected through a negotiated contract. Ground was broken in March 2022, and construction began in January 2023 on a 2.9-acre site in Kossoh Town, visible from the highway into Freetown. The single-story temple is approximately 18,000 square feet and rises to a central tower, with two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms and a baptistry. A two-story ancillary building houses an arrival center, patron housing, presidency apartments, ordinance worker apartments and utility functions. Westland established a local Sierra Leone company to deliver the work, and the team reached substantial completion in August 2026. As the first temple in Sierra Leone, it will also serve members in Liberia, sparing them a trip of more than 1,200 miles to the Accra Ghana Temple and giving them a lasting place of worship.
