Westland Construction built the new Neiafu Tonga Temple for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on the island of Vava’u, with Walker Community Architects as architect. Ground was broken in September 2021 in a ceremony attended by the King and Queen of Tonga. The temple stands on a 3.3-acre site on the campus of the Church’s Saineha High School. The single-story, 17,000-square-foot temple rises to a single attached spire and holds two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms and a baptistry. An ancillary building houses a distribution center, an arrival center, a family history center, and housing for patrons, the temple president and matron. Westland established a local Tongan company to support the work, and the team reached substantial completion in July 2026. As Tonga’s second temple, it means members in the northern islands no longer need a flight or an overnight ferry to Nuku’alofa, giving them a lasting place of worship.
