Westland Construction built the new Pago Pago American Samoa Temple for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with Stephenson & Turner as architect. Ground was broken in October 2021 in Tafuna on the island of Tutuila. The single-story, 17,000-square-foot temple rises to a single attached spire and holds two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms and a baptistry. The site also includes a distribution center, housing for the temple president and matron, and lodging for patrons traveling from across the islands. Building on a remote Pacific island required careful planning to ship materials and equipment thousands of miles. Westland drew on its experience across the South Pacific to keep the work moving. Construction was completed in August 2026. It is the first temple in American Samoa, where Latter-day Saints make up one of the highest proportions of the population anywhere in the world, and it gives members a lasting place of worship.
